Our History
1997
The group started in 1997 as a vineyard at Otway Estate. It was called Otway Estate Winery.
2000
The first wines were produced under the Otway Estate label.
2001
A small cellar door was opened at Otway Estate Winery and accommodation cabins were added to the Estate.
2006
After many years of research (and many samples of beer), the decision was made by Janine Rose (owner) to build a craft brewery on site at Otway Estate Winery. Otway Estate Winery became Otway Estate Winery & Brewery in November 2006, with the launch of the Prickly Moses Beer brand and the opening of the new Cellar Door and Function Centre.
March 2007
The release of the first two beers took place.
2015
Otway Brewing Group took over the lease of the Ballarat Hotel in Apollo Bay and renamed it to Great Ocean Road Brewhouse.
2020
Apollo Bay Distillery opened its doors, right before the Covid-19 lockdowns.
2023
Otway Rainforest Distillery opened at Otway Estate.
2024
Experience Centre opened at Otway Estate in Barongarook.
2024
The new brand “Redwood Distillery” launched at Otway Estate, producing whiskies and gins.
